Our presenter for the evening:
Pascal Mailhebiau
We are pleased to have Pascal Mailhebiau, French Wine connoisseurs extraordinaire, introduce you to our five delicious wines that he has chosen for our next event.
Hailing from Bordeaux, France, Pascal started honing his craft from his father at age 12. He harvested grapes and the entire
vinification process at the age of 14. Continuing through many years in the wine industry, he has worked very hard to earn his distinction
as a French Wine Expert.
Pascal has been the house wine director in several restaurants, including Jean Pierre and Scalo, here in Albuquerque.
We look forward to a fun, inspiring and knowledgeable evening with him. Here’s a personal view on what the wine world means to him: “I love it when a wine tells me a story”.
Pascal’s Wine Selections for our french wine event:
· 2014 Cave de Lugny Mâcon-Villages La Côte Blanche
The 2014 “Cave de Lugny Mâcon-Villages La Côte Blanche” is made from 100% Chardonnay, has the nervy, energetic fruit, and sheer joie de vivre that only white Burgundy can convey.
La Côte Blanche 2014 is completely unoaked, with mineral, yellow fruit, and floral notes, followed by apple, pear, and white flower flavors, all reminiscent of Chablis. A subtle minerality persists through the finish.
· Clos La Coutale Cahors Malbec
The Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean are both close to Cahors, halfway between Bordeaux and Montpellier.
There's refinement and rusticity in this age-worthy red. Cahors is the sophisticated, but humbler cousin of Bordeaux, with a lot of personality you'll love.
This wine has dark berry and plum fruits, savory almost meaty notes, fresh and dried herbs, oak spices, and minerals. A satisfying wine that shows the true nature of Malbec.
· 2018 Valmoissine Pinot Noir, Louis Latour
Valmoissine is 500 meters above sea level and is built on the site of an ancient monastery. As a result, there's plenty of sunshine during the summer while staying cool at night and low possibility of spring frosts.
As a result of its southern exposure, the grapes mature at the same time Grand Crus of Corton. The yield is small, ensuring perfect maturity and concentration of the grapes. The result is a wine with remarkable finesse and elegance.
The 2018 Pinot Noir is a fruity wine that offers a soft and silky palate with soft tannins.
2011 Le Perles Piquepoul
The name Pique-poul translates literally as “stings the lip” and is a reference to the grape’s mouthwateringly high acidity.
Named for their high acidity, Picpoul de Pinet wines are dry, light-bodied and green-gold in color, with lemon, saline and, occasionally, floral (blossom) notes. You’ll like Picpoul if you like Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Vinho Verde or other crisp, easy-drinking white wines.
